Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is enlargement of the prostate gland, which commonly occurs in older men. An enlarged prostate can interfere with urination, with increases in the frequency and urge, or causes problems emptying the bladder. BPH not only causes painful urination, but also influences the quality of life. Traditionally, saw palmetto extract from Serenoa repens, lycopene from tomatoes and Urtica dioica have been extensively used for BPH. Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps support prostate health while Urtica dioica is an herbal diuretic, which helps produces more urine. When combined with Serenoa repens, it provides relief of some of the symptoms associated with BPH.
