Bill Natural Sources® L-Lysine capsule is composed of L-Lysine, primarily an essential amino acid, which the human body cannot synthesize on its own and thus has to rely on adequate dietary supplement to function optimally. Lysine is one of the nine essential amino acids and it is often involved with our growth and tissue repair.
L-Lysine is often used to help reduce/prevent the recurrence of the herpes simplex virus (HSV) or cold sores. Cold sores use arginine, an amino acid, as one of the essential nutrients for growth. Lysine, being a direct competitor to arginine can help reduce flareups of core sores and HSV. Some studies have shown that when lysine is taken 1-3 grams a day for 6 months there is a significant drop in recurrences and there is evidence of a faster healing time and reduced symptoms during flareups.
L-Lysine also helps with collagen formation due to lysine modifications on the collagen protein. Even though lysine is not directly part of collagen, hydroxylysine which is formed from lysine is found on all types of collagens.
